10 Gbit dedicated link between OT and KIS

Since mid-May 2022, there has been a direct 10 Gbit connection between the German solar telescope on Tenerife and the KIS in Freiburg.

The link connects the storage nodes of the Science Data Centre (SDC) on Tenerife with the central Rucio instance at the KIS in Freiburg. It is a multiplexed WDM line on Layer 3 with a bandwidth of 10 Gbit/s and low latency. In addition to data transport, it will also be used to connect the remote observation stations at the KIS with the telescopes and instruments on Tenerife.

Initial tests between two virtual machines at both locations showed bandwidths of 1 - 3.5 Gbit/s for single streams, and over 7 Gbit/s for multiple parallel streams.
