Matthias Waidele successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis at the University of Freiburg.

In the thesis titled "Helioseismology of Sunspots - On the Detection of Subsurface Structure and Evolution", helioseismic investigations of interior properties of sunspots are carried out. It includes analysis of numerical simulations using SPARC, where a secondary emerging wave is found for the first time (see publication doi: 10.3847/1538-4357/ab5fcb); as well as data analysis using HMI data, where a so far unreported acoustic absorption siganture at high frequencies is described (see publication doi: 10.3847/1538-4357/abf55f).
