Reconciliation of Work and Family Life at KIS

KIS works to reconcile work and family life in accordance with gender equality principles.

Offering flexible working hours and different work models as well as financial support to childcare costs, the Institute contributes to the reconciliation of work, university studies, scientific career, parenting and the care of dependants. KIS continuously seeks to improve the framework conditions for staff members with family responsibilities.

An extensive range of information on topics such as childcare, school-holiday care and care of other dependants is provided to all staff members. In order to ensure these options, KIS has become involved in the Freiburg network of family-friendly employers.

In addition, in 2014 KIS underwent the berufundfamilie audit in order to guarantee the ongoing further development of the actions taken to improve the reconciliation of work and family life. The certification was awarded in October 2014.

As a result of the audit, certain additional objectives were agreed by KIS to be achieved within the next three years, e.g. in the areas of work organisation, information and communication, human resources development and services for families.

To date, KIS has already implemented the following measures in the field of working hours and work organisation:

Part-time employment

Flexitime system and long-term working time accounts

Telework

Childcare cost allowance
