Science Data Centre Postdoctoral Fellow

Applications are invited for the position of a Science Data Centre Postdoctoral Fellow at the Kiepenheuer-Institut für Sonnenphysik in Freiburg, Germany, available from January 1, 2018.
KIS is a foundation of public law of the State of Baden-Württemberg and a member of the Leibniz Association. Its mission is to perform fundamental astrophysical research with an emphasis on solar physics. Current research foci include the magnetized solar atmosphere, global magnetic activity in the sun and stars, and high resolution techniques. KIS operates the German solar facilities at the Teide Observatory on Tenerife, including the 1.5m GREGOR solar telescope to carry out observations at visible and near-infrared wavelengths, pursues a forefront instrument development program including solar adaptive optics and high precision polarimetry and the development of data calibration and data dissemination tools to provide the community with science-ready data in the framework of its Science Data Centre. Applicants should have a PhD in physics or astrophysics and a record of research in astrophysics, preferentially in the area of solar physics. We expect the successful candidate to contribute to the development of the Science Data Centre with the possibility of carrying out his/her own research programme. The selected candidate will be involved in the development of data management and data calibration tools for the Science Data Centre working with Dr. Nazaret Bello González (nbello@leibniz-kis.de). Candidates are requested to have broad expertise in the various programming languages (Python, IDL, C). The initial appointment will be for a term of 2 years according to German legislation and depending on the expertise and scientific standing of the successful applicant. The salary and benefits are according to the rules for government employees of the State of Baden-Württemberg (TV-L).
